Welcome back, Sir Oliver Skardy: take care of you

video: Sò ancora vivo, grassie a tutti (SOS#1)

It’s just a memory: it was the nineties, we were at the imbarcadero of Venice Lido. Then the vaporetto arrived in piazza Roma. Wherever you heard this song. I remember a spritz. Then the train left. Really happy hours.

Stàme bèn, Skardi. Grassie dea musica.

Shun Li works in a textile factory in the outskirts of Rome in order to get her papers and
enable her eight-year-old son to come to Italy. She is suddenly transferred to Chioggia, a small city-island in the Veneto lagoon, to work as a bartender in a pub. Bepi, a Slavic fisherman, nicknamed “the Poet” by his friends, has been a regular at that little pub for years. Their encounter is a poetic escape from solitude, a silent dialogue between cultures that are different, yet not more distant. It is an odyssey into the deep heart of a lagoon, which can be both the mother and cradle of identities, which never keep still.
But the friendship between Shun Li and Bepi upsets both the Chinese and local communities, who interfere with this new voyage, which they are perhaps simply too afraid
of.

Venice is a place of wonders, and sounds. Sometimes.

You walk out from the babel of the station, fast. Go beyond the Calatrava bridge, it’s half past eight, it’s August. There is still light. Even the noises of buses and the street talks of piazza Roma are behind. You walk slower inside the Dorsoduro, the voices dispersed. It’s a beautiful evening, a warm evening. Fondamenta delle Terese, then the bridge and Campo San Nicolò. And you hear this music, coming out from a window. Sit on a bench to listen it all. What else can you do? Venice is a city of wonders. And sounds. Sometimes.

Cosa altro puoi fare? Venezia è una città di meraviglie. E di suoni. A volte.
