txt: Falling Walls Conference: Unique Access to Breakthrough Research

The Falling Walls conference is an annual global gathering of forward thinking individuals from 75 countries. Each year, 20 of the world’s leading scientists are invited to Berlin to present their current breakthrough research. The aim of the conference is to:

- connect science with industry, politics, media and culture
- identify trends, opportunities and solutions for global challenges
- make research understandable to a broad audience
- inspire people to break down the walls that we face today

The initial conference was held in 2009 on the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall to celebrate this historic day by looking into the future and getting an understanding of the world of tomorrow.

Street Art is not static. The natural living space of street art is not the gallery but public urban space!
The project “Planet Prozess” will be a beacon for Street Art. It aims to create a dialogue to facilitate the understanding of this manifold form of expression. The participating artists place a special emphasis on the conjunction of internal and external space. The exibition will be a dynamic process whereby the Artists develop their work over the three weeks. For one month the former Senatsreservenspeicher, situated at the Spree, will become the nerve center connecting all artistic processes.
“Planet Prozess” invites the public to join the creation-process every day of the exhibition; to meet the artists and to discover the variety of urban creation and communication. Participating and observing, the public can experience the diversity of street writing, graffiti or other forms of urban expression.
After 21 days the creative process comes to an end. We are going to celebrate the results with a Block Party and a second Opening. The works will be on show for another ten days. The internationally renowned artists, from train-writer to fine artist, reflect their national and cultural context in their work.

But creative people can still find a place

Shutting down all this [Tacheles] would be a huge loss,’ he says. ‘There is a difference between the art market and art, and we are that difference.

txt: Urban contemporary – INTOXICATED DEMONS GALLERY

Is “urban contemporary art” just another modern term for selling products to the suburban youth? Does it explain the different way of living in the city instead of growing up in the country? Nevertheless, we’re not an encyclopedia spending time on scientific explanations. We would like to show you art in a different way.

Urban Contemporary is a term for art that is also recognized as “Street Art” or “Urban Art”, Graffiti and Skateboard culture as its roots. After years in the “underground” this art movement has found his way into the art scene through the addition of more commercial elements like fine illustration, comic and graphic design. Some of the artists are already well known, like for example Shepard Fairey, Barry McGee, Doze Green, Banksy and others.

Let’s come to a point and say: Urban art is a creative melting pot of several different techniques whether they are so called “classic painting” (oil or acrylic) or made with spraycans, markers, stencils, stickers, analog or digital. It reflects our suburban living and the way we think about it. In the end, it’s important so say: There is not really a frontier between so called “fine art” and so called “urban art”. The space between both is liquid. It depends on you – it’s mostly the way you look at it and the way YOU feel it!

Berlin urban art

txt: A short verse about cities – www.urban-art.info

I have never completely understood what the city is. It possesses an unusual naturalness. A naturalness beyond which I cannot see; it holds me as if I am imprisoned. The city does not only consist of spaces, buildings or streets. It seems to be broken down into wishes, longings and countless references. And often enough the spaces and buildings stand for exactly
that: unfulfilled promises. The city is an instrument. It is a giant hostel in which I am but a nomad. The city is like a substitute for everything that I cannot have or be. It is like a stage, an eternally prolonged rehearsal for some postponed premiere. On other days it is the exact opposite and I can feel how those traces and wishes that I have left behind work and merge with others.

The city is never silent. It is a place of ceaseless adjustment. And yet it also appears to be empty. It is nowhere and everywhere. It has no centre. The city is an organism without any geometry. It is dissolved in an indeterminate space. To be outside the city, always feels like the absence of the city.
