Le 4 T: Talento, Tecnologia, Tolleranza. E Trento

Ideas should travel

High speed Infrastuctures and Networks for the 2019 Metropolis European Capital of Culture.

The Italian NorthEast is living through yet another phase change. For some years, particularly since the crisis has affected significantly all the traditional businesses on which this area’s economy has developed, the more dynamic companies have chosen to internationalize and innovate their products, to make them more competitive in the global markets. Networks, facilitating customer relations, the exchanging of ideas and creativity, have gained a prominent role in the creation of value.

Today it has become more and more obvious that only with ideas (culture and significance) and with suitable infrastructures and services, the NorthEast can overcome the risks of marginalization and decline. This fate has damaged entire industries (jewellery, chair manufacturing) and is menacing others (furniture, fashion, machine and footwear manufacturing).

Last year’s Festival launched the proposal to promote the NorthEast as the 2019 European Capital of Culture, a big event that intends to redefine the role of the area, and to redirect its planning. In this fourth edition the Festival would like to highlight the grand theme of the infrastructures and the networks (tangible and intangible), on which the “2019 Metropolis” will have to depend for moving ideas and goods to travel, developed by the new creative industries.

Back where the web began: matter, antimatter

txt: CERN: How the web began

The first proposal for the World Wide Web (WWW) was made at CERN by Tim Berners-Lee in 1989, and further refined by him and Robert Cailliau in 1990.

txt: Antimatter atoms produced and trapped at CERN

Antimatter – or the lack of it – remains one of the biggest mysteries of science. Matter and its counterpart are identical except for opposite charge, and they annihilate when they meet. At the Big Bang, matter and antimatter should have been produced in equal amounts. However, we know that our world is made up of matter: antimatter seems to have disappeared. To find out what has happened to it, scientists employ a range of methods to investigate whether a tiny difference in the properties of matter and antimatter could point towards an explanation.

Provincia Italiana

txt: PROVINCIA ITALIANA

Provincia italiana is one of the Collateral Events to be held during the 12th Venice International Biennale of Architecture. The project consists of meetings, workshops, talks, and conferences in some of the most fascinating venues in the provinces of Vicenza, Venice, Padua, and Treviso.
It is a programme of events and activities taking place during the period of the Biennale in Palladian villas, a Second World War bunker, industrial areas, and abandoned factories. Provincia italiana is a laboratory for rethinking the territory, with architecture as its starting point, and for two months it will activate spaces and, above all, people.

The projects aims are:
- to create a concerted territorial network for the exchange ideas about contemporary themes
- to capitalize on the territory’s historical/architectural heritage by using it as the scenario for events and activities
- to create an international context for animating the economic and social system
- to construct operative programmes for cultural situations, and to plan and activate experimental projects that will permit local situations to compete in global contexts
- to redefine the character of the territory by sparking off new approaches to social and cultural relationships

Provincia italiana is a project promoted by C4 – Centro Cultura Contemporaneo Caldogno, organized by Fuoribiennale and Centro Studi Usine, curated by CulturAli, made in Innov(e)tion Valley
